Hawaiian - Haole Tropical Style Vocals and Guitar

The impact of the early post-contact years, when Hawaiians were exposed to the music of the Western or non-Polynesian world. This music ranged from the lively sea chanties sung by the early visiting mariners to the more solemn hymns introduced by the missionaries.

Hawaiians embraced this form of expression and made it their own. For the most part, the earliest (1820–1872) Hawaiian compositions have been lost but much remains from the period between 1872 and 1900. A new Hawaiian music appeared during this time in Na Lani 'Eha, the royal composers for the Kings and Queens of Hawaii (Kalakaua, Lili'uokalani, Leleiohoku, and Likelike.)

From 1895 to 1915, Hawaiian music changed again with the introduction of ragtime. The year 1903 brought the "invention" of hapa haole music and the "discovery" of the 'ukulele, soon to become a staple in Hawaiian musical performances. Hawaiian troubadours spread this music to the American continent and Europe in Hawaiian themed stage productions like The Bird of Paradise (opening in 1912) which helped to popularize Hawaiian music around the world.

Tin-Pan-Alley versions of hapa haole music spread across the U.S. into the 1930s and beyond. During this time, the popular radio program "Hawai'i Calls," transmitted live from Hawai'i directly into American homes.

Hawaiian music has continued to evolve with Hawaiian composers and entertainers from Tandy MacKenzie to Alfred Apaka to Don Ho to Iz, all adding their flavors to the mix.

Today's Hawaiian music is contemporary, from Rock to Rae Gay to Traditional.

As a musician for most of my life, I have always enjoyed listening to the smooth, graceful songs of old Hawaii. Songs that was heard by millions throughout the world on shows such as Hawaii Calls, Harry Owens, and Arthur Godfrey. Songs such as My Yellow Ginger Lei, Lovely Hula Hands, Sweet Some One, The Huki Lau Song, Tiny Bubbles, Pearly Shells, Days of My Youth, Little Grass Shack, Hawaiian Wedding Song ... and many other tourist and local favorites. I am from the Big Island of Hawaii -- Kona!

My goal is to present the songs in a very personal way ... up close, with acoustical guitar and voice: LIVE, with much zeal and expression ... to bring back that warm, good feeling of those wonderful, nostalgic days of old Hawaii.

My goal, also is to revisit those very special days through the magic of "Musically Reminiscing through Time" -- sort of like a musical time machine.
My music is fun, it's lively, it's sentimental, it's magnificent, and at times -- gentle, warm and soothing ... like the gentle palms and radiant sunset.

I have been entertaining the Senior population for over 23 years. About as long as I have worked in the field as a Recreational Coordinator and Director for various Senior Communities (Independent, Assisted, Rehab, and Skilled Nursing levels; as well as Alzheimer and Memory Care). And although my "Specialty" is the Songs of the "Big Band Era, I also have fond memories of the richness of old Hawaiian music.

These are the places that I have and am presently performing: The Oaks of Petaluma, Adobe House of Petaluma, Burbank Heights of Sebastopol, Mirabel Lodge of Forestville, Springlake Village of Santa Rosa, Lodge at Paulin Creek of Santa Rosa, Sonoma Health Care of Sonoma, Primrose of Santa Rosa, Berkshire Care Center of Napa, Palm Gardens of Woodland, Ca. and more.

Music has a way of bringing people together, no matter what age. It is what binds all nationalities and countries ... Hawaiian music has enchanted peoples from across the globe; bringing back wonderful memories of pre-war days.
